www.f4wonline.com/wwe-news/rocks-production-company-developing-film-about-wwes-paige-229711THE ROCK'S PRODUCTION COMPANY DEVELOPING A FILM ABOUT WWE'S PAIGE BY JOSEPH CURRIER | @josephcurrier | FEB 7, 2017 11:20 AM Paige's life story could soon be making its way to the big screen. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced on Facebook on Tuesday that his Seven Bucks Productions company is producing a film based on WWE wrestler Paige (real name Saraya-Jade Bevis) and her family. The movie was inspired by a documentary that aired on Channel 4 in the UK that chronicled Paige and her family's career in the wrestling business. Based on the documentary, the film will be titled "Fighting With My Family." "Years ago (2012) while shooting Fast & Furious in London, I was up at 3am (too much caffeine) and stumbled upon a documentary on a UK station about a local wrestling family and their daughter's unlikely journey into the global spotlight," Johnson wrote. "That daughter, is current WWE Women's Superstar, Paige. The family element I saw in the doc, is what grabbed my attention. That no matter how crazy life gets, no matter how dysfunctional our families can sometimes be and especially regardless of how much we fight -- we're always there for each other when it counts. That's what families do." Stephen Merchant will write and direct the film, with Johnson noting that Merchant grasped how gritty and heartfelt the comedy-drama should be. Johnson also noted that they would be partnering with WWE Studios and Film 4 on the project. The Hollywood Reporter's story on the film said that Florence Pugh and Jack Lowden have been tapped for starring roles, with Johnson making a cameo as himself in addition to his position as executive producer. Paige's wrestling career is currently on hold after she underwent neck surgery last year. She was also suspended by WWE twice for wellness policy violations in 2016.

www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/mgm-picks-up-dwayne-johnsons-wrestling-drama-fighting-my-family-974677MGM Picks Up Dwayne Johnson's Wrestling Drama 'Fighting With My Family' MGM is buying the project in Berlin where the price tag in the $15 million range could set a market record. MGM has plunked down a sizeable sum to pick up the rights to Fighting With My Family, a wrestling drama from Dwayne Johnson and WWE Studios. The project, to be written and directed by Stephen Merchant (The Office, Hello Ladies), was selling at Berlin’s European Film Market, but now MGM has taken worldwide rights in a deal worth in the $15 million range, THR has confirmed. Florence Pugh, Jack Lowden, Lena Headey and Nick Frost are starring in the drama, which is based on the true personal story of WWE Superstar Paige and her family of professional wrestlers. Johnson, who of course first found fame as a wrestler under the moniker The Rock, will executive produce the comedy-drama and play a cameo as himself. THR earlier this week revealed the project was up for grabs in Berlin, giving this synopsis: The project is inspired by the Channel 4 British documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family and tells the story of reformed gangster and former wrestler Ricky, his wife Julia, daughter Saraya and son Zak, who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country. Ricky and Julia want a better life for their children, and when brother and sister get the chance to audition for WWE it seems the family dream is coming true and all their troubles will be solved. However, Saraya and Zak are about to learn that becoming a WWE Superstar demands more than they ever imagined possible, both as athletes and siblings. Wrestling has always kept this family together — but now it could tear them apart. WME Global repped project in the deal.

This is the film that Dwayne Johnson developed and will produce under his Seven Bucks Productions banner, as well as play a role in. The film will star Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey and Nick Frost. WME Global and Bloom are tying down the biggest world rights deal I can remember happening out of Berlin. The number makes sense for a film with Johnson, Headey and the rest of the cast, but we don’t usually see them that large in the Berlin market. The comedy-drama, which will begin production imminently, is written and directed by Stephen Merchant (The Office) and is based on the true story of WWE star Paige and her family of professional wrestlers. The pic is produced by Seven Bucks Productions, which Johnson co-founded with Dany Garcia, teaming with Misher Films, WWE Studios and Film4.
