Futterman, Gibney and Wright will executive produce the series, eyed for a 2017 premiere. Rahim, repped by UTA, can next be seen in Garth Davis’ upcoming epic, Mary Magdalene, starring as Judas, alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Jeff Daniels is headed for Hulu. The Emmy-winning actor has signed on to star in the streaming service's 9/11 drama The Looming Tower, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The project is based on Lawrence Wright's Pulitzer Price-winning book and tracks the rising threat of Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda and examines how the rivalry between the CIA and FBI may have inadvertently set the stage for the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy as well as subsequent war in Iraq. Daniels will star in the 10-episode drama as John O'Neill, the determined, bull-headed chief of the New York FBI’s Counter-Terrorism unit. The character is rightly convinced that the U.S. has been targeted for attack by Al-Qaeda, and faces deliberately insufficient cooperation from other facets of the federal government, particularly from his counterpart at the frequently antagonistic CIA. A man of appetites, O’Neill is a lover of expensive food and drink, and is involved with at least two girlfriends, neither of whom know about his wife and children. Dan Futterman (Foxcatcher, Capote) is writing the adaptation and executive producing the Legendary Television series alongside Oscar- and Emmy-winning director Alex Gibney (Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief). Wright will also exec produce the series. Looming Tower marks the latest TV role for Daniels, who won an Emmy for his lead role on HBO's Aaron Sorkin drama The Newsroom. He next stars in Netflix's Steven Soderberg Western limited series Godless. On the big screen, the actor is currently in production on The Catcher Was a Spy. His credits include The Martian; Dumb & Dumber; Good Night, and Good Luck; and Steve Jobs. Daniels is repped by ICM Partners. Daniels joins a cast that also includes Michael Stuhlbarg, Bill Camp and Tahar Rahim.
