Sundance: Digital Series 'Pineapple' Acquired by Blackpills
The project, from Adaptive Studios, will be one of the first offerings on the new streaming service.
Blackpills, a new streaming service, has acquired rights to Adaptive Studios' digital series Pineapple, which will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival with three short-form episodes from the series screening as part of the Midnight Episodic Showcase on Jan. 21.
Written, directed and edited by Arkasha Stevenson, Pineapple follows a miner's daughter who is assaulted in a local coal mine and the impact the event has on the small town in which she lives. The cast includes Tyler Vickers, Kel Owens, Ron Gilbert, Gloria Vonn, Lucille Sharp, and Brooklyn Robinson. The project was produced by Drew Diamond, Halee Bernard, Tim Smith and executive produced by Perrin Chiles, TJ Barrack, Marc Joubert, Marshall Lewy, Stephen Christensen with co-executive producers Marie Halliday and Kate Grady.
Blackpills, a digital media company with offices in Paris, Los Angeles and Tel Aviv, specializing in short scripted premium content, is scheduled to launch in early 2017. It was founded by Daniel Marhely, the co-founder of Deezer, and Patrick Holzman, the former Canal+ International executive who created Europe's first VOD service. Pineapple will be one of the first pieces of content to bow on Blackpills and will be part of a larger slate deal between Adaptive Studios and Blackpills.
