Jon Voight’s ‘Riley’s Peak,’ ‘Ghost Beyond’ Get Financing From Steven Paul
Steven Paul’s SP Releasing has provided financing for two just-completed movies — action-adventure “Riley’s Peak” and horror-thriller “The Ghost Beyond,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Paul, one of the producers of Scarlett Johansson’s “Ghost in the Shell,” is continuing to ramp up SP Releasing’s distribution slate as part of plans to distribute more than 50 films over the next three years through a multinational production effort and an expanding acquisitions drive. Titles typically have budgets under $10 million and will be released theatrically by SP Releasing and through its worldwide output deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
“Riley’s Peak” stars Jon Voight, Jamie Kennedy, Vail Bloom (“Vanderpump Rules”) and newcomer Aiden Cullen. The story centers on a young boy (Cullen) and his dog as they trek the Kentucky wilderness on a journey to spread the ashes of his recently deceased grandfather, portrayed by Voight.
Patrick Alessandrin (“District 13”) directed from a script written by Mark Hefti. Plans are to release theatrically in the summer of 2017.
“The Ghost Beyond,” directed by Michael Givens, stars Trevor Donavan (“90210”) and Bobby Batson (“90 Minutes In Heaven”). It’s been scheduled for a day-and-date theatrical release and home entertainment release in the third quarter of 2017.
Paul, a veteran independent producer with credits on both “Ghost Rider” movies, has struck multiple film production arrangements in the U.S., China, and Thailand, and production is underway using tax efficient structures. Recent films include “JL Ranch,” starring Jon Voight, James Caan, and Melanie Griffith.
