The company, headed up by former Marvel publisher Bill Jemas, gave away 15,000 copies of its Nighy of the Living Dead-inspired graphic novels for free to convention attendees. “The best part for our team was having convention goers get a free book one day and then come back the next to tell us how much they liked it," said Double Take's senior Story Editor Michael Coast. "We got to see ourselves making new fans in real time." To add a bit of showmanship to the giveaway, Double Take used three games to determine which graphic novel (or novels) each attendee would get. The games were a prize wheel, blackjack, or random-card draws, which each participant receiving at least one GN each. Double Take's Business Manager Lillian Tan said they gave away roughly seven graphic novels per minute, exceeding their anticipated demand. The publisher originally intended to give away 10,000 copies, but due to demand brought the extra five thousand from their nearby NYC offices.
