variety.com/2016/tv/news/alison-brie-glow-netflix-female-wrestling-cast-1201846537/ Alison Brie to Star in Jenji Kohan’s Female Wrestling Netflix Series ‘G.L.O.W.’ “Community” alum Alison Brie will star in Netflix’s female wrestling series “G.L.O.W.,” Variety has confirmed. The comedy hails from “Orange Is The New Black” creator Jenji Kohan, and is based on the 1980’s league, which stands for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. “G.L.O.W.” was a popular professional wrestling troupe that toured for live shows and had a self-titled show that ran until 1990. The half-hour series, which is described as showcasing “big hair and body slams,” is inspired by the real story behind the wrestlers, and will tell the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress — played by Brie — who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers. Netflix picked up “G.L.O.W.” to series in May. The show marks Brie’s regular return to series TV, following “Community,” which was cancelled by NBC after five seasons, and ran for a sixth season on the now defunct Yahoo Screen in 2015. Brie is already in the Netflix family, as she voices characters on the animated “BoJack Horseman.” She recently had a guest role on TV Land’s “Teachers” on which she’s an executive producer, and formerly had a prominent role on “Mad Men.” On the film front, she recently starred in “How To Be Single” and “Sleeping With Other People.” She is repped by WME. Netflix has not set a launch date for “G.L.O.W.,” which will run 10 episodes for the first season.

www.f4wonline.com/daily-updates/daily-update-kickboxer-batista-bola-finals-elhassan-apologizes-219991Chavo Guerrero Jr. will be doing the training for the new GLOW series that is coming to Netflix. www.ign.com/articles/2016/09/03/former-wwe-star-chavo-guerrero-training-alison-brie-for-netflixs-glowFORMER WWE STAR CHAVO GUERRERO TRAINING ALISON BRIE FOR NETFLIX'S GLOW BY ALEX OSBORN Professional wrestler and former WWE star Chavo Guerrero Jr. has been hired to train the cast of Netflix's upcoming wrestling comedy series, GLOW. According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, Chavo was recently brought on board as wrestling coordinator to help GLOW's leading lady, Alison Brie, and the rest of the cast "acquire basic ring knowledge" ahead of filming later this month. Guerrero is currently part of the El Rey Network wrestling series, Lucha Underground. While Netflix has not yet formally announced his involvement, Brie retweeted the news, essentially confirming its validity. In GLOW, Brie plays a struggling actress in Los Angeles who enters into the world of women's wrestling by joining a weekly series about the sport. She's joined by Marc Maron, who stars as the series' male lead - a washed up Hollywood director now working on the GLOW TV series. GLOW, executive produced by Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan, will span a total of 10 episodes and is created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch. The series draws story inspiration from the real life events of a 1980s female wrestling league of the same name, which stands for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Chavo Guerrero's own uncle, Mando Guerrero (brother to the late Eddie Guerrero), served as the trainer for the original GLOW series.

www.pwinsider.com/article/104882/former-wwe-tna-star-joins-cast-of-netflixs-glow.html?p=1FORMER WWE & TNA STAR JOINS CAST OF NETFLIX'S GLOW By Mike Johnson on 2016-09-22 13:01:00 Former WWE and TNA talent Kia Stevens, best known as Awesome Kong and Kharma, has joined the cast of Netflix's forthcoming comedy "GLOW", based on the 1980s female wrestling league The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, which aired for several years and even did a national tour based on the success of the series' syndicated TV series, according to Deadline.com. We are told that Stevens auditioned for the series. Alison Brie, seen on NBC's Community in the past, has been cast as the lead while Marc Maron will also be a lead. According to Deadline, Britt Baron, Jackie Tohn,Kimmy Gatewood, Rebekka Johnson, Kate Nash and Sunita Mani have also been signed to join the cast for the series. Netflix ordered a 10 episiode first season for "GLOW" this past May. The series, created by Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Orange is the New Black), was inspired by the documentary on GLOW that was released in 2012 and will tell a new fictional story, set in the 80s, of an actress who uses the promotion and pro wrestling as her last-ditch attempt to become a star. The show will be executive produced by "Orange Is the New Black" creator/executive producer Jenji Kohan and co-executive producer Tara Herrmann. Given that "Orange" is such a monster for the streaming service, expect Netflix to put their muscle behind the comedy when it debuts.

deadline.com/2017/03/netflix-launching-glow-on-june-23-orange-is-the-new-black-1202032885/Netflix is launching its straight-to-series wrestling comedy GLOW on June 23, according to a very 1980s video announcement launched by the company today. Inspired by the short-lived but beloved show from the ’80s, GLOW tells the story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women’s wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin), a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia, played by Marc Maron, a washed-up, B-movie director who must now lead this group of women and a journey to wrestling stardom. GLOW is created by Liz Flahive (Homeland, Nurse Jackie) and Carly Mensch (Nurse Jackie, Orange Is The New Black). Orange Is The New Black creator Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann exec produce alongside Flahive and Mensch who are serving as showrunners.

deadline.com/2017/06/glow-review-alison-brie-marc-maron-wrestling-netflix-video-1202113398/‘GLOW’ Review: Alison Brie & Marc Maron ’80s Wrestling Dramedy Kicks Butt The 1980s are a big destination on the cultural landscape nowadays and, after the success of Stranger Things last summer, the Reagan Era is a big deal on Netflix too as the binge-worthy GLOW makes very clear. Set in 1985 and the spandex-covered world of female wrestling and partially based on the nutty four-season series of the same name, the great June 23-launching GLOW is a ton of big hair, synth soundtrack, neon, killer kitsch and in-the-ring fun. But with all its moves, tumbles and dilemma, the dramedy created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch also pulls you into its low-budget cable-show-within-a-show universe, as I say in video review above. Like the sleight-of-hand moves that anyone who’s ever watched WrestleMania knows so well, the Alison Brie- and Marc Maron-led ensemble delivers big-picture pile-drivers on gender roles, Hollywood sexism, reinvention in the City of Angels and finding yourself in ways you never expected. Ordered straight to series, the 10-episode first season executive produced by Orange Is The New Black creator Jenji Kohan finds Community alum Brie as a struggling and not-so-talented actress hitting the glass ceiling of rejection and prejudice in the Tinseltown of more than 30 years ago. Out of desperation and initially treating the whole thing like performance art, Brie’s Ruth Wilder attends an open casting call for a slapped-together female wrestling league pilot. The show within a show is being put together on the quick and cheap in a Hail Mary career move by failing hack feature director Sam Sylvia, played by WTF podcast host Maron. Although GLOW spends a lot of its early episodes setting up the situation and its large cast of characters, both Brie and Maron are excellent. So good, in fact — and I’m sure he hate to hear this — that Maron, who had a self-titled IFC series for four seasons, might want to consider giving up his successful podcast day job. Add to that the muscular performances of Nurse Jackie vet Betty Gilpin, former real life wrestler Kia Stevens, UK singer Kate Nash, Ellen Wong, Sydelle Noel, the rock video queen-playing Jackie Tohn, Britney Young, Gayle Rankin, Mr. Robot’s Sunita Mani, Marianna Palka, Kimmy Gatewood, Rebekka Johnson and Grey’s Anatomy’s Brit Baron and there are (no spoilers) many stereotypes set up and smashed apart. Take a look at the video review to see more of my take on GLOW — executive produced by Flahive, Mensch, Kohan and Tara Herrmann — and book several hours next weekend to get in the ring with it.
