‘From The Bridge’, George Takei-Narrated Docu About Publisher Kerry O’Quinn Announced
With geek culture ascendent like never before – see the fantastic opening for Suicide Squad despite the critical drubbing – the documentary From The Bridge examines the community’s four-decades long journey from niche to billion dollar industry through the eyes of one of the influential publisher who helped make it happen. Written and directed by Spencer F. Lee and hosted onscreen by Star Trek’s George Takei, the feature-length docu looks at the career of Kerry O’Quinn, the publisher responsible for more than 20 geek-friendly newsstand magazines including Starlog, Fangoria, Cinemagic, Comics Scene, and more that helped foster and grow the geek community years before the Internet.
From The Bridge features new interviews conducted by Lee with some of the most successful creators in science fiction, comics, and horror (along with some very prominent fans) of the last several decades, among them Stan Lee, Bryan Singer, Gene Simmons, Joe Dante, Nichelle Nichols, Tom DeSanto, Bryan Fuller, Rod Roddenberry, Howard Roffman and more. Also featured are never-before-heard interviews conducted by O’Quinn with Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and the late Leonard Nimoy, plus historic footage of O’Quinn introducing Gene Roddenberry and George Lucas onstage at the Star Wars 10th Anniversary Celebration, the only time the two shared a stage together. From The Bridge is executive produced by George Noe and Spencer F. Lee, and produced by Philip Nelson. Release information will be announced in the coming months.
