Zelda Williams’ Feature ‘Never’ Gets August Release Via Indican Pictures
Never, which marks the starring feature debut of Zelda Williams (daughter of the late Robin Williams) and the project she was filming at the time of her father death, will go into theaters in limited release on August 19, courtesy of boutique distribution company Indican Pictures. The distributor will bow the film in Seattle, Los Angeles and New York after coming off the festival circuit where it garnered positive reviews.
Indican’s past releases include The Boondock Saints, Girl Next Door, Independent Spirit Award winner Hybrid, NAACP Image award winner the Black List and more recently Kill Me Deadly and NFL Pro-Bowler Simeon Rice’s feature debut – Unsullied which opened in over 150 theaters and pulled in $500K-plus for a nice per screen average.
Never was produced by Cherie Saulter (The Myth of the American Sleepover, This is Martin Bonner), Deborah Newmyer (How to Make an American Quilt, The Ugly Truth) and executive produced by both Nick Wechsler (Sex, Lies & Videotape) and writer T.S. Nowlin (writer/creator of The Maze Runner series and movies).
The film stars Williams in her breakout dramatic debut. It was written, directed and produced by Brett Allen Smith.
Williams, who is one of the stars of the new series Dead of Summer, stars with Zachary Booth (South of Hell, The Beaver) in a portrait of an unlikely friendship in Seattle that blossoms, complicates, and ultimately redefines their understanding of sexuality and modern relationships.
The film also stars Nicole Gale Anderson (Beauty and the Beast TV series, Pretty Little Liars TV series) and Angela Sarafyan (HBO’s West World, Twilight Series).
Never tells the story of Denim (Booth), new to Seattle and eager for the next phase of his life to begin. But when he falls in love with Nikki (Williams), a gay singer-songwriter struggling in Seattle’s music scene, the sudden and intense friendship they discover will change their lives – and force them to question everything they thought they knew about love.
Original music was written for the film by Nora Kirkpatrick (Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) and features an eclectic soundtrack from Seattle label Sub Pop Records.
The deal was negotiated by Shaun Hill of Indican Pictures and Brett Allen Smith and Bradley Maurer for Muse Productions.
Indican just released a new trailer for the film which is being released theaters today. Here’s a look:
