Details on Barbieri’s role have not been disclosed other than being a friend to Holland’s Peter Parker character. Kevin Feige is producing with Amy Pascal. Plot details have remained under warps. Sony has held the rights to “Spider-Man” since the 1990s and has made five films to date, beginning in 2002. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is set to open on July 7, 2017. Barbieri is also in the cast of Sony’s “The Dark Tower” opposite Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s horror fantasy. He made his feature film debut in Ira Sachs’ “Little Men” about parents battling over a dress shop lease. Barbieri originally auditioned for the Peter Parker role.
