www.technobuffalo.com/2016/04/15/obi-wan-kenobi-wasnt-going-to-die-a-new-hope/Obi-Wan Kenobi wasn’t originally going to die in Star Wars: A New Hope Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope‘s latter half was rather good. The bit with the Death Star, Han showing he’s not so bad after all and, of course, Obi-Wan sacrificing himself to become a higher power in the Force. That last bit, the part about Obi-Wan dying? That wasn’t originally written to happen in A New Hope. Old Ben wasn’t going to die. We know this because Peter Mayhew, the actor behind Chewbacca, has been posting script pages for the original Star Wars trilogy on Twitter. Here’s the page in question, along with the tweet from Mayhew. Peter Mayhew ✔ @thewookieeroars #chewscript 027 Obi-wan lives through his fight with Vader. Check it out. @starwars 12:13 AM - 13 Apr 2016 2,145 2,145 Retweets 3,832 3,832 likes THere’s a close-up of the page in question. Notice that Vader doesn’t strike Obi-Wan down. The two engage, stare at each other and then Old Ben appears in front of Threepio. That’s pretty darn cool, if you ask me. Just about as cool as yesterday’s news regarding C-3PO. Yep, we now know why his arm is red in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Also, notice how the script refers to Vader as a Sith. Maybe my Star Wars knowledge is rusty, but do we ever hear the word Sith in the original trilogy? I’m not sure we do.
