Gravitas Partnering With Incognito for North American Releases
Independent releasing specialist Gravitas Ventures and Incognito Pictures have signed a licensing agreement for North American distribution, Variety has learned exclusively.
The companies have already been teaming on the March 25 release of baseball documentary “Fastball,” narrated by Kevin Costner (“Field of Dreams,” “Bull Durham”), with appearances by Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan, Bob Gibson, Goose Gossage, Derek Jeter and the late Tony Gwynn. Jonathan Hock directed, with Legendary Entertainment topper Thomas Tull exec producing with Jack Selby.
Tull and Legendary brought in Incognito to facilitate the distribution. Fans will be able to schedule “Fastball” screenings through the Tugg platform on March 24.
Incognito Pictures has established a “Film Finishing Fund” for independent films and documentaries in need of completion and distribution. It will use the the funds to acquire and complete the projects while Gravitas will release these films in theaters and/or VOD.
The companies did not indicate how many films the agreement will cover.
Gravitas Ventures was founded by Nolan Gallagher in 2006 as a specialist in releasing independent films. Recent releases include Colin Hanks’ “All Things Must Pass”; “Being Evel,” from director Daniel Junge and producer Johnny Knoxville; “Bleeding Heart,” starring Jessica Biel and Zosia Mamet; “Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of”; and “Barney Thomson,” starring Robert Carlyle and Emma Thompson.
Incognito Pictures was founded by Scott Stone. Its slate has included the recent feature-film adaptation of the documentary “Freeheld” starring Ellen Page and Julianne Moore.
