variety.com/2016/film/news/rebecca-ferguson-to-star-in-skydances-life-exclusive-1201666178/ Rebecca Ferguson to Star in Skydance’s Sci-fi Pic ‘Life’ Rebecca Ferguson is set to star in the Skydance sci-fi pic “Life,” sources tell Variety. Daniel Espinosa is directing the film with David Ellison and Dana Goldberg producing along with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. The project, an original idea, has a script written by “Deadpool” duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Story follows the crew of the International Space Station, who, after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected. Ferguson has become an in-demand actress in Hollywood following her break-out in Skydance’s “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” where she beat out a slew of actresses for the role of Isla Faust. Following the film’s huge box office success with $682 million worldwide, she began to land offers for some of the biggest roles in town including the female lead opposite Michael Fassbender in “The Snowman” and one of the leads in DreamWorks’ “The Girl on the Train” opposite Emily Blunt. She is also expected to reprise her role in the next “Mission: Impossible,” which shoots next August. She is repped by ICM Partners, Actors in Scandinavia and Tavistock Wood.

variety.com/2016/film/news/ryan-reynolds-mars-movie-life-1201695442/ Ryan Reynolds Circling Mars Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Life’ Hot off the heels of “Deadpool’s” massive opening weekend, Ryan Reynolds may be trading his superhero costume for a space suit for what could be his follow-up project to the comic book pic. Sources tell Variety that Reynolds is in talks to star opposite “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” actress Rebecca Ferguson in Skydance’s sci-fi thriller “Life.” Daniel Espinosa is directing the film with David Ellison and Dana Goldberg producing, along with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. The project, an original idea, has a script by “Deadpool” duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. The story follows the crew of the International Space Station as it retrieves a sample from Mars and discovers that it displays signs of life more intelligent than ever expected. “Deadpool” blew away opening weekend expectations by hauling in $282.1 million worldwide, including $150 million domestically. It broke Valentines Day box office records set last year by another R-rated pic, “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Reynolds had a strong slate of prestige pics in 2015 with “Woman in Gold” and “Mississippi Grind,” and can be seen next in “Criminal” alongside Kevin Costner. He is repped by WME. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

variety.com/2016/film/news/jake-gyllenhaal-ryan-reynolds-rebecca-ferguson-life-1201723170/ Jake Gyllenhaal Joins Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson in ‘Life’ Jake Gyllenhaal is set to co-star with Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson in Skydance’s sci-fi pic “Life.” Daniel Espinosa is directing the film, with David Ellison and Dana Goldberg producing along with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. The script was written by “Deadpool” duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Story follows the crew of the International Space Station, who, after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected. Over the past couple of years, Gyllenhaal has demonstrated a good balance of prestige and commercial projects. The boxing drama “Southpaw” and adventure pic “Everest,” which both bowed last year, led to strong reviews for the actor. His 2016 pics, “Demolition” and “Nocturnal Animals,” are expected to be in the mix for next year’s awards season. This year Gyllenhaal is also expected to shoot “Stronger,” which is based on the true story of one of the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing who helps the police track down the killers while struggling to recover from devastating trauma. variety.com/2016/film/news/life-sony-jake-gyllenhaal-1201731024/Sony to Distribute, Co-Finance Skydance’s ‘Life’ Starring Jake Gyllenhaal Sony Pictures has come on board to co-finance and distribute the Skydance thriller “Life,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds. Variety recently broke the news that Gyllenhaal would be taking over the lead role in place of Reynolds, due to the latter’s schedule. Reynolds is still set to have a supporting role. “Safe House” director Daniel Espinosa is helming the pic. David Ellison and Dana Goldberg are producing along with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. The script was written by “Deadpool” duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. The story follows the crew of the International Space Station, who, after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected. The film has yet to be dated, though it is expected to be fast-tracked for a greenlight, with production on track to start this spring. The movie would mark one of the first major Skydance productions in which Paramount is not a partner. Sources indicate that Paramount and Skydance’s relationship is intact, and Skydance took the project elsewhere in part because Paramount’s J.J. Abrams project “God Particle” shared a similar storyline. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.
