variety.com/2016/film/news/sam-raimi-a-prophet-remake-sony-1201666142/ Sam Raimi to Direct Sony’s Remake of ‘A Prophet’ by Justin Kroll Sam Raimi will direct Sony’s remake of “A Prophet.” Dennis Lehane adapted the script with Neal H. Moritz is on board to produce. Toby Jaffe is overseeing for the Original Pictures. Insiders say Jaffe was the one who felt the film fit Lehane’s style and was the person who introduced him to the project. The original followed an Arab man who is sent to a French prison and soon becomes a Mafia kingpin among the prisoners. The film starred Tahar Rahim and went on to win the Grand Jury Prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. It was also nominated for best foreign film at the 2010 Oscars. The studio will now move quickly to find its star as Raimi hopes to get the film into production by mid-2016. While he is best known for his big-budget tentpoles like the “Spider-Man” pics and most recently “Oz the Great and Powerful,” Raimi came up in the industry directing adult thrillers like “A Simple Plan” and “The Gift,” making this film a return to form for the director. Raimi hasn’t directed a pic since “Oz the Great and Powerful” but has stayed busy on the producing side with projects including remakes of “The Evil Dead” and “Poltergeist.” He is repped by CAA.
