Sam Rockwell, Jeffrey Tambor and Steve Coogan are headlining voice talent in a new R-rated animated feature comedy from Augenblick Studios called The Adventures of Drunky, which follows a barfly (Rockwell) in the middle off a cosmic bet between God (Tambor) and the devil (Coogan) over the fate of the Earth.
Augenblick Studios (Ugly Americans, Wonder Showzen, Superjail) has already started production on the animated which will also star Nina Arianda, Dave Attell, and Tyler The Creator. The supporting cast includes Abby Elliott, John Leguizamo, Jon Glaser, Jay Pharoah, Noel Wells, James Adomian, Larry Murphy, Rachel Butera, and Randy Pearlstein.
The Adventures of Drunky marks a new trend in independently produced animated features for adult audiences. In the same line of thinking — STX and the Jim Henson Company are doing a live-action/puppet R-rated comedy for adults as well.
Drunky,Augenblick Studios would like noted, is the first animated feature film ever produced in Brooklyn, NY.
As the storyline goes, Drunky, with his life destroyed, must travel through Heaven and Hell to rescue the girl he loves (Arianda) and save the world. Assisting Drunky on his quest are an alley cat (Tyler The Creator) and a demon (Attell).
The film is being directed by Aaron Augenblick from his original concept. Lisa Thomas and Kris Wollinger of Augenblick Studios will produce along with James Belfer and Daniel Shepard of Cartuna. Peter Lengyel and Adam Belfer will executive produce. The screenplay was written by Aaron Bergeron.
