variety.com/2016/digital/news/shout-factory-4k-ultra-hd-blu-ray-1201672379/Shout! Factory has announced its slate of 4K Ultra HD format with high dynamic range Blu-ray movies for 2016. The multi-platform media company’s family-friendly releases will include “Journey to Space,” “Humpback Whales,” “Flight of the Butterflies,” “Rocky Mountain Express,” “Wonders of the Arctic” and “The Last Reef: Cities Beneath the Sea.” Shout! Factory is planning to begin the releases in late spring/early summer 2016. Pricing has yet to be announced. “As the Ultra HD devices and entertainment content begin to populate the consumer marketplace this year, we are announcing our commitment to the UHD format joining industry leaders and major consumer electronics companies,” Melissa Boag, Shout’s Senior Vice President of Kids & Family Entertainment, said. “We look forward to presenting these awe-inspiring movies to a broad audience in the UHD format, around the same timeframe that the traditional Blu-ray edition hits national retail.” Aside from high dynamic range compatibility, the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs boast better color. HDR is being turned to as a way to hopefully save the DVD business as disc sales and rentals decline in double digits. Garrett Lee handled the acquisition of these movies for Shout! Factory.
