www.bleedingcool.com/2015/12/23/will-a-smarter-hulk-emerge-in-thor-ragnarok/While talking to Ain’t It Cool News about his new film Infinitely Polar Bear, actor Mark Ruffalo suggested the minds of the Hulk and Bruce Banner may be merging going into his appearance in Thor: Ragnarok. In reference to the character(s) walking away from the Avengers at the end of Age of Ultron, Ruffalo said, “Who decided to leave? Was it Banner or Hulk? It’s not really in the mythology of Hulk up until that moment to be that conscious and pro-active. It’s interesting, right?” A more integrated Hulk/Banner persona has been established off and on for decades in the pages of the Marvel comics, which Ruffalo acknowledged, saying, “The comic books have kind of broached the subject, but we’re moving away from the traditional Hulk/Banner relationship.” As the character continues to play a support role in the Avengers films, the conflict between the two personas can only remain fresh for so long. A smarter or more integrated Hulk would certainly be new for screen audiences only familiar with his film and earlier TV appearances, which never progressed past the conflict. Should Ruffalo’s ruminations prove to be the direction Marvel takes the character, will it be time for his skin to change? Could Joe Fixit be a direction the studio would actually consider in future appearances? Thor: Ragnarok, Ruffalo’s next Hulk outing, will arrive in theaters on November 3rd, 2017.
