Screen Gems’ Pam Kunath Promoted To Exec VP, Content Strategy
Screen Gems executive Pam Kunath has been promoted by the newly-created position of Executive VP, Content Strategy for Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group. The announcement was made today by the Motion Picture Group’s Chairman Tom Rothman, and President Doug Belgrad, to whom she will now jointly report.
“We are building numerous branded franchises, from Spiderman to Ghostbusters, Resident Evil, Smurfs, Hotel Transylvania, Jumanji, and many others, and are developing long term strategies for their transmedia exploitation,” said Rothman in making the announcement. “Pam is the perfect executive to spearhead this effort. She has helped build Screen Gems into one of the most nimble, profitable film operations in the business, with strong franchises that have worldwide appeal. In this new position, we will tap her considerable expertise, global perspective, and keen commercial sense to expand the depth and reach of Sony Pictures’ film franchises.”
The label’s most recent release, The Perfect Guy has grossed over $57M domestically.
In her new role at the studio, Kunath will be responsible for coordinating and leveraging the studio’s branded content across all distribution channels and will work across departments and production units (Columbia, Tri-Star, Animation but not the TV unit) and closely with Sony Entertainment’s strategy EVP, Kunimasa Suzuki, and the Motion Picture Group’s consumer marketing EVP, George Leon.
Her oversight also includes distribution channels beyond traditional theatrical – like home entertainment, which is now part of the Motion Picture Group.
Kunath joined Sony Pictures in 2001, and has held a variety of executive roles at the studio’s Screen Gems label. Since 2009, she has served as EVP and General Manager at Screen Gems, working alongside Screen Gems president, Clint Culpepper, and providing strategic and tactical guidance across the label’s activities.
