variety.com/2015/tv/news/dark-net-showtime-series-digital-world-1201647942/ Showtime Greenlights Docuseries ‘Dark Net’ About Disturbing Digital World Showtime has greenlit a new unscripted series, which will delve into the ominous and disturbing perspective of a digitally connected world. “Dark Net” is set to premiere on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 11:00 p.m. The eight-part docuseries explores the netherworld where virtual and physical lives collide in ways surprising, disturbing and seemingly inevitable. With society’s growing dependence on technology the internet has become indispensable for billions of users, but “Dark Net” will unveil the dangers of its unchecked shadow, raising cautionary, thought-provoking conversations. Each half-hour episode will cover themes including bio-hacking, cyber-kidnapping, digital warfare, online cults, pornography addiction and the webcam sex trade. “Dark Net” hails from Vocativ, a technology and media company that applies proprietary technology to search and monitor the deep web — the 80 percent of the internet that lies beyond the reach of regular search engines. Mati Kochavi, the founder of Vocativ, created the series, which is exec produced by Danna Rabin, Vivian Schiller and David Shadrack Smith of Part2 Pictures. Similarly, the NBCUniversal-owned cabler Syfy recently greenlight a digitally-danger-themed show, “The Internet Ruined My Life,” which exposes the unexpected perils of living in a social-media obsessed world.
