Inspired by Jewish folklore, Demon sees a young man head to his fiancée’s hometown, where he receives a plot of land from her grandfather as a wedding gift and sets to building new home on the property. After finding human bones buried on the land, strange things begin to happen that alter the couple’s life forever. The film, which premiered at Toronto, was directed by the late Marcin Wrona from a script he co-wrote with Pawel Maslona. Wrona also produced with Olga Szymanska serving as executive producer. Demon follows the Orchard’s previous TIFF acquisition, the horror anthology Southbound, which also is slated for a 2016 release. The deal for Demon was negotiated by Danielle DiGiacomo, Director of Acquisitions for the Orchard, with ICM Partners on behalf of the filmmakers. Reel Suspects is currently selling the film at AFM.
