Revolution Studios Pacts With Universal Pictures Home Entertainment To Capitalize On Library
Revolution Studios has entered into a multi-project agreement with Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production arm of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, to create new, non-theatrical productions based on properties in Revolution’s film library. Although no project has been pegged, some of the titles in the library that 46 titles Uni could chose from are Black Hawk Down, Maid In Manhattan, Anger Management, Daddy Day Care, America’s Sweethearts, XxX and White Chicks.
“This access to Revolution’s impressive library of films affords Universal unique opportunities to revitalize and extend the narrative of beloved properties to create exceptionally appealing new fare exclusively for entertainment audiences,” said Glenn Ross, EVP and General Manager of Universal 1440 Entertainment in a statement.
Under terms of the agreement, Universal will acquire the rights to produce and distribute sequels, prequels or other spinoffs of Revolution feature titles for non-theatrical formats worldwide.
Revolution Studios, founded in 2000, is run by CEO Vince Totino and COO Scott Hemming. The two have been growing their library of films since they took over the company in 2014 when founder Joe Roth sold the company to affiliates of Fortress Investments Group.
“We have found an ideal partner in Universal 1440 Entertainment, which has had global success in creating or extending film franchises with high-quality, non-theatrical productions,” said Totino. “Combining Revolution’s extensive library of hit films with Universal’s skill and experience at producing and releasing original content is a win-win proposition.”
Added Hemming: “The Revolution catalog contains a wealth of popular and acclaimed titles with compelling storylines that naturally lend themselves to new stories.”
Universal 1440 Entertainment has produced numerous successes worldwide, including installments of American Pie, Bring It On, Curious George, The Scorpion King, Death Race, Jarhead, the Chucky series and Beethoven, among many others.
Marla Levine, Revolution Studios’ General Counsel and Head of Business and Legal Affairs, negotiated the deal on Revolution’s behalf, while Nancy Eagle, SVP Business and Legal Affairs, spearheaded negotiations for Universal 1440 Entertainment.
