TIFF: eOne Relaunches Momentum Pictures Label With Orion Releasing Deal
Momentum and Orion will jointly acquire and distribute specialized titles for the U.S. and select international territories.
Entertainment One is rebooting its Momentum Pictures banner as a digital and multiplatform label and has announced a multipicture deal with Orion Releasing.
The agreement, announced ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival, will see the two companies jointly acquire and distribute specialized multiplatform releases for the U.S. and select international territories.
The first films to be distributed under the new deal include Nick Sandow's The Wannabe, starring Vincent Piazza, Patricia Arquette and Michael Imperioli; and Ava's Possessions, from director Jordan Galland and starring Louisa Krause, Jemima Kirke and Dan Fogler.
“As we bring back Momentum Pictures, we are taking a global approach to distribution and focusing on specialized theatrical releases in the U.S. while looking for the strongest opportunities for each film in markets around the world,” said Momentum Pictures president Berry Meyerowitz. “Our goal is to work with the best partners to bring great films to audiences in new and innovative ways, and this deal is a great place to start.”
“Our deal with Momentum Pictures expands Orion’s strategy to acquire quality content for worldwide audiences,” added Chris Ottinger, president of Orion Releasing. “Together, we will be able to use our strong customer relationships and robust distribution infrastructure in the U.S. and around the world.”
Orion Releasing specializes in multiplatform releases and has distributed such titles as Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers' 2014 SXSW grand jury prize winner Fort Tilden and the Andrew Disney-directed comedy Balls Out.
