Aveillan is an award-winning commercials director known for his blend of cinematic style and groundbreaking effects, which he displayed with short films for branded content that included Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Swarovski, Crystals, Audi and Samsung. Tommy Wirkola wrote and directed the original. Aveillan will continue the adventures of the witch-hunting siblings played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. Compared to the flood of revisionist fairy tales for family audiences, this was a raucous, raunchy gem and audiences responded. The $50 million-budget film grossed $226 million and did especially strong business overseas. There is certainly room to grow this into a franchise. Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Kevin Messick are producing through Gary Sanchez Productions, with Beau Flynn and his FlynnPictureCo. Gary Sanchez Productions has the Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg-starrer Daddy’s Home opening Christmas Day for Paramount, and Flynn is readying Rampage at New Line with his San Andreas cohorts Dwayne Johnson and director Brad Peyton. Aveillan is repped by WME and Wendy Jacobson is overseeing for FlynnPictureCo.
