Alchemy Boosts Distrib Arm, Becomes Major Nonstudio Pipeline To Walmart, Target
Alchemy has bolstered its content distribution operation by acquiring ANconnect and Anderson Digital, and forming a strategic alliance with ARC entertainment. The announcement was made today by Alchemy’s CEO Bill Lee, Anderson Companies’ President and CEO Charlie Anderson, and ARC’s President Trevor Drinkwater. These transactions make Alchemy a pivotal non-studio aggregator for Walmart, Target, Best Buy and Sam’s Club; and expand Alchemy’s annual content flow to over 1,300 films and more than 3,000 television episodes.
Alchemy also gains 50 new content partners including Bagdasarian Productions (the owner of the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise); DreamWorks Animation’s non-theatrical and classics divisions (a portfolio that also includes the VeggieTales franchise, as well as classics like Frosty the Snowman, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Rocky and Bullwinkle); Ketchup; Microsoft (Halo franchise owners); Team Marketing; Vertical; Well Go USA; and XLrator.
ARC is a family and faith-base supplier to Walmart and other national retailers. Alchemy will partner with ARC to optimize and distribute their media assets. In addition, Alchemy will financially support the Bentonville Film Festival and provide distribution to titles associated with the event. The fest which champions women and diversity media projects was founded by ARC, Geena Davis and Walmart. ANconnect is the distrib arm of of Anderson Media Corporation which owns a portfolio of innovative consumer product and services businesses. Anderson Digital is a global digital film and TV distrib.
As part of today’s deal, Charlie Anderson will become an investor in Alchemy. Additionally, Freyr Thor will serve as Alchemy’s Senior Vice President of Product Management. The ANconnect and Anderson Digital acquisition was negotiated by Bill Lee and Jim Jenkins, Alchemy’s Executive Vice President of Operations, along with Charlie Anderson, Bill Lardie and Chuck Taylor on behalf of Anderson Media Corporation. The ARC alliance was negotiated by Lee and Jenkins with ARC’s Trevor Drinkwater. Alchemy was advised by SunTrust Robinson Humphrey and Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP in the deal.
