But Not Where You Think IDW Publishing's Chris Ryall just posted a promotional image on his Tumblr revealing that both Micronauts and Rom: The Space Knight would be returning to comic books with new projects sometime in 2016. Both Micronauts and Rom: The Space Knight were published by Marvel in the 1980s as part of their extensive line of licensed series based on toys. Although both series were integrated somehwat into the Marvel Universe with crossovers with the X-Men and other Marvel-owned characters, the nature of licensed characters meant that when the licensed expired so did Marvel's chance to use the characters. Over the years, both grew into cult-favorites with original issues escalating in value due to the lack of reprints or new series due to the toylines they were based on being dormant. Some of the elements that Marvel introduced in their Micronauts and Rom: The Space Knight comic book series have found new life however at the publisher, with Micronauts' Microverse being used, under the name "the Quantum realm," in the upcoming Ant-Man movie. And Marvel recently announced a new comic book series featuring a new space knight to replace Rom: Venom: Spaceknight. As for IDW's Micronauts and Rom: The Space Knight plans, the publisher tells Newsarama that more will be announced in the coming weeks.
