2003 - The World Wrestling All-Star's latest tour opened up on in Sydney, Australia before an estimated crowd of 1,200 fans. I'll likely get more concrete figures but all reports said it was below 2,000 fans.
The show featured the crowning of a new WWA Cruiserweight champion with a tournament that sounds really good on paper as Chris Sabin defeated Frankie Kazarian and Jerry Lynn defeated Johnny Swinger with a cradle piledriver in the Semi-Finals. Lynn won the title defeating Sabin in what was said to be the best match of the night, which looking over the rest of the card, I am inclined to believe.
The show was headlined by WWA champion Sting winning a Three-Way Dance over Rick Steiner and Shane Douglas. It was Douglas' debut for the company. He was pinned with the Scorpion Death Drop. Sting got the biggest reaction of anyone on the show
In other results from the show, Teo beat Meatball and Puppet in a Hardcore match. They did an angle after where Shane Douglas attacked all three demanding a title shot to set up the main event....Crowbar beat Mark Mercedes (a local wrestler) in a Hardcore match. This was said to have been decent....Sabu beat Joe E. Legend in what was said to have been an entertaining match....Konnan pinned Disco Inferno with a Pedrigree. Inferno was said to have gotten the biggest heel reaction while running down Australia.
Notes: Bret Hart appeared and gave a quick speech. He was to have looked "really tired."....They did the live commentary in the building per previous WWA events with Disco Inferno and Dave Penzer doing commentary for most of the show. WWA owner Andrew McManus also did some commentary and it wasn't said to have been pretty when he was doing it....Horshu was advertised for the tour, but was actually at the WWE Smackdown taping working a dark match yesterday....Special thanks to Dan Lennard and Michael Milto for contributing.
