Cannes: Russia’s Wizart Racks Up Sales on ‘Snow Queen’ Franchise, ‘Sheep and Wolves’
CANNES — Russian animation house Wizart Animation has closed further deals at Cannes on the “Snow Queen” franchise, “Sheep and Wolves” and “Urfin and His Wooden Soldiers.”
New project “The Snow Queen 3: Fire and Ice,” which was launched at Cannes, has found its first buyers. All rights were sold to Shooting Stars (Middle East), where the movie will have a day-and-date release in 2016, to the Baltic states (ACME Film), Turkey (Medyavizyon) and South Korea (Cinema Republic).
Spain’s Barton Films took all rights to “The Snow Queen” and “The Snow Queen 2,” and Bollywood Films took all rights for the pics in Pakistan. It will be the first time a Russian film has been released theatrically in Pakistan, said Joe Mirza, CEO of Bollywood Films. “These films are of a very high standard and they can compete with any of the other product in the market at the moment,” Mirza said.
Just4Kids took all rights in Benelux for “The Snow Queen 2,” and ITA Film acquired the film in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
All rights to “Sheep and Wolves” went to ACME Film (Baltic states), Pro Films (Bulgaria) and Pakistan (Bollywood Films). “Urfin and His Wooden Soldiers” went to Best Film (Baltic states) and Smile Entertainment (South Korea).
The first two installments of “The Snow Queen” franchise have been released in more than 80 territories to date. “The Snow Queen 2” will be released in the U.S. this year after all rights were acquired by eOne. “The Snow Queen 2” will also play in Spain, France, Germany, Brazil, China, Japan, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Indonesia and Thailand this year.
Wizart’s projects were presented at the Russian Cinema stand, organized by Cinema Fund of Russia.
