www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/cannes-2015-iron-sky-2-795956Michel J. Vandewalle of Atlas International and Glenn Kendrick Ackerman of V International Media have come aboard to co-finance and handle world sales outside of Scandinavia for Iron Sky: The Coming Race, the sequel to the cult Nazis-on-the-moon film from 2012. The project will kick off world sales in Cannes. Ackerman and Vandewalle will also take on sales duties for the original Iron Sky. With the new backing, Iron Sky 2 is ready to begin production. The $14 million production will begin shooting in September with delivery in late 2016 and an planned premiere in Berlin in February 2017. The producers hope to coordinate the international release of Iron Sky 2 to make it as close to day-and-date as possible. The first Iron Sky had a staggered international release and was quickly and widely pirated online. Budgeted at $10 million, the original film grossed more than $8 million in Europe, where it was first released, but less than $125,000 in the U.S. The sequel, billed as a dark comedy sending up Hollywood's mega-budget science fiction films, aims to begin shooting in 2015. The first Iron Sky raised more than $1 million of its $10 million budget via crowd funding, with the rest coming from traditional funding sources.
