Harare — ZIMBABWE will later this week host the inaugural convention on comic books and digital arts.
Called the ComExposed, the event will be held at Alliance Francaise in Harare on Saturday.
In an interview, the organiser, Tinashe Zambe Makoni, said this convention was an exciting event for Zimbabweans.
“Zimbabwe has never been as exciting as it is right now. The nation and the continent are going through a period of awakening, awakening to opportunity, awakening to new ideas and awakening to their own identity,” he said.
“We are excited to be giving Zimbabweans an opportunity to tell their African stories through the platform of ComExposed - The Zimbabwe Comic Book Convention.
"In fact it is the first comic book convention in Southern Africa and only the third on the whole continent. Comexposed will, for the first time, bring together Comic Artists, Digital artists, Designers, Fans, Enthusiasts and the corporate world all the while highlighting 100percent Zimbabwean heroes and conceptism,” he said.
Converging Africa’s digital artists and comic book lovers all under one roof, ComExposed gives insights on the trending issues in comic book publishing and digital arts.
With the theme “Know Your Heroes” the event will feature a lineup of local superheroes Zimbabweans didn't know they had but will come to love from Arcadia Knight to Ganyamuto.
Via tekeconferencing, Zimbabwean-American actress and playwright, Danai Gurira, of The Walking Dead fame, will share her views on visual arts and comic books.
Nigerian comic book expert Ayodele Elegba, Claire Dongo, Carl Joshua Ncube, Limbikani Makani and Shingai Mtezo will have panel discussions at the convention.
