Based on Matthews’ 2007 documentary, the feature scripted by James Graham stars Asa Butterfield (Hugo) as a teenage math prodigy on the autistic spectrum who faces challenges when he is selected to compete in the International Mathematics Olympiad. Sally Hawkins, Rafe Spall and Eddie Marsan co-star. A summer release is planned. “We are excited to bring this incredibly moving and inspiring film to audiences around the country,” said Peter Goldwyn of Samuel Goldwyn Films. “The cast has tremendous chemistry and they each deliver remarkable performances. They will have you rooting for them from the beginning to the end of the film.” The pic is a BBC Films and BFI presentation in association with Head Gear Films, Metrol Technology, Screen Yorkshire and Lipsync Prods. of an Origin Pictures/Minnow Films production. Laura Hastings-Smith and David M. Thompson produced and Ed Rubin co-produced. Christine Langan, Joe Oppenheimer, Lizzie Francke, Phil Hunt, Compton Ross, Hugo Heppell, Norman Merry and Peter Hampden executive produced. The deal was negotiated by Samuel Goldwyn VP and general counsel Ian Puente and by Bankside Films’ Stephen Kelliher on behalf of the filmmakers.
