A summer release is planned on the indie distributor’s PACE label. The pic stars James “Primo” Grant and John Diaz. The East New York-set plot centers on a member of the notorious Bloods — both in the film and in real life — Primo takes John, the son of his slain mentor, under his wing, versing him in the code of the streets. “Five Star is a searingly realistic and poignant portrait of two men who struggle to protect and provide for their families, while immersed in the vicious yet familial web of gang culture,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon. “We could not be more proud to present Keith Miller’s important and socially aware film as one of the first releases on our PACE releasing label.” Daryl Freimark (Allegiance), Luisa Conlon (Obvious Child) and Miller and produced and Russell Miller is executive producer. The deal was negotiated by Gordon and XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin on behalf of the filmmakers.
