In addition Showtime Networks has taken TV rights while Mongrel Media has acquired Canadian. Music Box plans to bow Meru in the late summer for an Oscar qualification. The Chicago-based distributor recently won a foreign film Oscar for Poland’s entry Ida. Co-Directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Meru follows three elite mountain climbers who sacrifice everything but their friendship as they struggle through heartbreaking loss and nature’s harshest elements to attempt the never-before-completed Shark’s Fin on Mount Meru, the most coveted first ascent in the dangerous game of Himalayan big wall climbing. The deals were negotiated by David Koh and Josh Braun of Submarine on behalf of the filmmakers and producers along with Ed Arentz and William Schopf of Music Box Films; Helen Huang of Showtime Networks along with Matt Burke of Submarine; and Andrew Frank and Hussain Amarshi of Mongrel Media.
