Sundance Winner ‘Partisan’ Gets U.S. Distribution From Well Go
Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Ariel Kleiman’s child assassin drama “Partisan” for a theatrical release this year, Variety has learned exclusively.
Vincent Cassel and Jeremy Chabriel star in “Partisan,” which won the Sundance World Cinema Special Jury Award for cinematography. It’s Kleiman’s feature directing debut.
Kleiman and longstanding collaborator Sarah Cyngler wrote the script, set at an isolated compound where Cassel’s character trains children for killing. The film is centered on his son, played by Chabriel, who begins to think for himself at the age of 11.
Variety‘s Ben Keningsberg gave “Partisan” a positive review, saying the film was “confidently told and in some ways quite original.”
“Partisan” is the third feature from Warp Films Australia and is produced by Warp’s Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw. Frederick W. Green, Joshua Astrachan and David Kaplan of Animal Kingdom and Nigel Williams served as executive producers.
“Partisan” is financed by Screen Australia, Animal Kingdom, Film Victoria and DDP Studios with support from Fulcrum Media Finance. Madman Entertainment is the Australian/New Zealand distributor, and ARP is releasing in France.
The deal was brokered by Well Go USA’s Doris Pfardrescher with UTA Independent Film Group and Protagonist Pictures on behalf of the producers.
Kleiman is represented by UTA and attorneys Alan Wertheimer and Kimberly Jaime at Jackoway Tyerman. Chabriel is represented at UTA and in Australia by Tracey Gorman at Joan Gibson Management.
