‘Captive’ Starring David Oyelowo & Kate Mara Acquired By Paramount
Paramount Pictures has secured worldwide distribution rights to Captive, the based-on-a-true-story thriller starring Selma‘s David Oyelowo and Kate Mara. The studio has already set a September 18, 2015 release date.
Directed by Jerry Jameson and written by Brian Bird, the pic centers on Ashley Smith (Mara), a single mom who struggles to overcome her drug addiction to regain custody of her daughter. But she is taken hostage by an escaped, quadruple murderer (played by Oyelowo in about a polar opposite a part as possible from Selma‘s Martin Luther King). Ashley’s only defenses: faith in God, a love for her daughter, and the book A Purpose Driven Life, parts of which she reads aloud to her captor during the harrowing ordeal. This leads to an epiphany for both Ashley and the convict.
Michael K Williams, Leonor Varela, Jessica Oyelowo and Mimi Rogers co-star.
The film is based on the book Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story Of The Atlanta Hostage Hero by Smith with Stacy Mattingly. Terry Botwick, Jameson, David Oyelowo and Ken Wales produced in addition to BN Films’ Alex Garcia, Lucas Akoskin and Katrina Wolfe. The executive producers are Santiago Garcia Galvan, BN’s Jonathan Gray, Elliott Lester, Ralph Winter and Bird. BN fully financed the picture, and Cinetic Media negotiated the rights deal.
Oyelowo is repped by CAA, Inphenate and Hamilton Hodell and Schreck. Mara is repped by UTA and Stone, Meyer.
