Taron Egerton stars as Michael Edwards, who rose to fame as the very-last-place finisher in two events at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Hugh Jackman will play his coach. Production is under way in Alps. Edwards became known to the world as Eddie the Eagle as he “soared” to spectacularly bad results in the 70M and 90M ski jumping events. He came into the games as Britain’s record holder in the sport but left as a scene-stealing poster boy for never-say-die underdogs everywhere. Fox has set an April 29, 2016, release for the film directed by Dexter Fletcher from a script by Sean Macaulay. Matthew Vaughn, Adam Bohling, David Reid, Rupert Maconick and Valerie Van Galder are producing. It has that late-April weekend to itself for now. Meanwhile, the studio today also set a release date for Fox 2000’s Keeping Up With The Joneses, about a suburban couple who become convinced that their new neighbors are government spies. Zach Galifianakis, Jon Hamm, Isla Fisher and Gal Gadot star in the pic, which is set for an April 1 release. Directed by Greg Mottola and produced by Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, it will trade punches with the Sony/Screen Gems comedy Catfight.
