Joby Harold, the scribe who architected the multiple installments of the King Arthur franchise with Knights Of The Roundtable with Guy Ritchie directing Sons Of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam, is now out with Robin Hood: Origins, a gritty version of the rogue do-gooder Robin Hood. Appian Way is producing. Now, there are competing projects at two other studios: Disney acquired the Brandon Barker spec Nottingham & Hood, a revisionist take on the Robin Hood legend for Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman to produce through The Picture Company. This follows Sony staking a claim to Sherwood Forest as it bought a pitch by Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott earlier this fall for a high price. I’m told that Nottingham & Hood has a Pirates Of The Caribbean tone and the hope is to launch a new adventure franchise that fits Disney’s global brand. I’ve heard it possible that Sony could take the Harold script off the table and mesh it with its other project. But other studios are kicking the tires. Stay tuned, but clearly we are going to get another Robin Hood to go along with the ones made with Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner, and of course the Cary Elwes spoof Men In Tights.
