Vimeo is looking to bring more exclusive content to its video-on-demand platform through a deal with Machinima.
Under the pact, Machinima's network of more than 30,000 creators will be given access to the streamer's Vimeo On Demand self-distribution platform. Vimeo On Demand will become the preferred transactional VOD platform for Machinima and will be integrated into Machinima's Console Talent Management system, which provides analytics, social tools, supports and other tools.
The deal will also give select Machinima original programming and Machinima creators eligibility for funding from Vimeo in exchange for exclusive Vimeo On Demand distribution. In addition, Machinima creators will be eligible to receive a discount for Vimeo PRO, a premium service that provides a high-quality HD player and ad-free viewing experience.
"Our partnership with Vimeo for content development and distribution on its innovative transactional platform delivers new monetization opportunities and funding sources for premium, long-form content developed and produced both by Machinima and the creators in our talent network," said Machinima CEO Chad Gutstein. "Vimeo's technology and user base is perfectly suited with our focus on reaching millennials with content anchored in fandom and gamer culture." Added Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor: "We are very excited to put the Vimeo platform to work for Machinima's global talent community."
Vimeo has been making efforts to bolster its relationship with YouTube creators. In January it announced a similar deal with Maker Studios.
