deadline.com/2015/02/jj-abrams-paramount-new-deal-july-2018-1201376296/BREAKING: Paramount Pictures has reupped JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions banner through July 2018. It continues to be a first look deal. This comes as Bad Robot is in production on Mission: Impossible 5, which Christopher McQuarrie is directing and Tom Cruise is reprising his Ethan Hunt role. It was Abrams and Cruise which got the M:I franchise back on track as producers on Mission: Impossible–Ghost Protocol, which has been by far the biggest grossing film Bad Robot has been involved in with the studio. Paramount and Skydance Productions are co-financing that franchise. “Through unrivaled imagination, talent and skill, J.J. has consistently entertained audiences around the world with his unique and creative approach to storytelling,” said Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures. “Paramount takes an incredible amount of pride in our longtime partnership with J.J. and the entire Bad Robot team, and we look forward to being their home for many more years to come.” Abrams has been directing Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens for Disney. “I am so grateful to Brad Grey and all of Paramount for giving Bad Robot such a supportive, creative, and collaborative home,” said J.J. Abrams. “The whole Bad Robot Team looks forward to the coming years with our most excellent partners.” Bad Robot is also readying the next installment of Star Trek, which Justin Lin will direct, for July 2016 release. The producer is in post on the Mary Elizabeth Winstead/John Goodman thriller The Cellar.
