variety.com/2015/film/news/berlin-banned-iranian-director-jafar-panahis-taxi-is-hot-efm-item-1201427844/Banned Iranian auteur Jafar Panahi’s “Taxi” is proving a hot item at Berlin’s EFM market, after screening in competition at the festival to positive reviews. “Taxi” — in which Panahi plays a Tehran cabbie driving a diverse mix of candidly confiding passengers — has rapidly been sold by Gaul’s Celluloid Dreams to: France (Memento); Italy (Cinema – Valerio De Paolis); Germany and Austria (Weltkino); Switzerland (Filmcoop); Sweden (Folkestbio); Norway (Arthaus); Poland (Solopan); Former Yugoslavia (12 Films); Baltics (Must Kasi); and Columbia (Cine Columbia). Celluloid topper Hengameh Panahi, who is the director’s regular sales agent (no relation to the director), said she is fielding multiple offers for North America and a slew of other territories. “Taxi” is Panahi’s third film smuggled abroad since 2010, when he was arrested by Iranian authorities and banned from moviemaking. His other two post-ban pics are “This Is Not a Film” and “Closed Curtain,” which competed in Berlin in 2013 where it won the screenplay prize.
