Jason Zada is directing from a script rewritten by Sarah Cornwell and Nick Antosca, based on an original idea by David S. Goyer. Lava Bear Films is producing the film along with Goyer under his Phantom Four banner. Focus Features acquired North American distribution rights at Cannes and has scheduled the film for wide release on Jan. 8. The film begins production in May. Good Universe is selling “The Forest” at the Berlin Film Festival. It has closed sales to Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions for Australia/New Zealand, Eastern Europe, Iceland, Israel, Portugal, Scandinavia, South Africa, Spain and all of Asia, excluding Japan. The U.K. has sold to Icon; Germany, Switzerland, and Benelux have sold to Splendid; the Middle East has sold to Grand Cinema; and Latin America to SUN Distribution. The film is set in the Aokigahara forest at the base of Mt. Fuji, where a young American woman goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Huisman will next be seen in “The Age of Adaline.” He’s repped by ICM Partners.
