New Greek Sales Outfit Heretic Outreach Makes EFM Debut With ‘Why Me?’
ROME – Heretic Outreach, the company dedicated to sales and international distribution of films from South-Eastern Europe launched recently by Greek producers Giorgos Karnavas and Kostantinos Kontovrakis is making its debut at Berlin’s EFM mart with Romanian director Tudor Giurgiu’s Panorama Special title “Why Me?”
Produced by Bucharest-based Libra Film and Oana Giurgiu and co-produced by Hai-Hui Entertainment, Chouchkov Brothers and Cor Leonis Films, “Why Me?” (pictured) is Giurgiu’s third feature, following his comedy “Of Snails and Men.” Pic turns on an aspiring and idealistic Romanian prosecutor who struggles with corruption within the same system he is supposed to protect.
“Berlinale and the EFM are going to be our first major market and we are very proud to be there with such a strong film, presented in Panorama Special” boasted Ioanna Stais, the Head of Festivals and Sales at Heretic Outreach, in a statement.
Stais joined Heretic Outreach from Paris-based sales company Wide Management’s Eye on Films label dedicated to first and second works. She will also be handling Heretic Outreach sales at EFM on Greek director Margarita Manda’s “Forever” and Dutch director Marinus Grothoof’s “The Sky Above Us,” both fresh from their recent Rotterdam bows.
As indie pics everywhere find it harder to circulate, Heretic Outreach is positioning itself as a one-stop sales agent/consultant/strategist for filmmakers from South-Eastern Europe, and also for film institutes and film funds from the region. They plan to focus mainly on pics produced or co-produced by one of the following countries: Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYR Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Turkey and Cyprus.
Heretic’s core activity will be launching titles via film festivals, as the first step towards theatrical and VoD distribution.
