variety.com/2015/film/news/berlin-bac-films-clinches-key-sales-on-taj-mahal-exclusive-with-stacy-martin-1201427221/Paris-based company Bac Films has clinched a first round of all-rights pre-sales on Nicolas Saada’s “Taj Mahal,” a thriller set against the backdrop 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack. Based on the true story of one of the survivors, the movie stars Stacy Martin as a young woman who was trapped in one of the suites of the Taj Mahal hotel during the assault. Bac has pre-sold the film to major distribs, including Italy’s Rai Cinema, Japan’s Nikkatsu, Middle East’s Gulf and Indonesia’s PT Cinema. Gilles Sousa, Bac Films’ head of international sales, is now closing the U.K. and Germany. “We’re showing a first promo here at the EFM and it’s getting tremendous (interest): We even have people dropping by during their lunch breaks to see the promo because they’ve heard about it,” said Sousa, who added that, besides the attractive cast, buyers are also drawn to the film’s story, concept and script. Produced by Patrick Sobelman at Agat Films, the $8 million film is described by Saada (“Spy(ies)”) as an “intimate disaster film.” “We deal with the event, but it serves mostly as a backdrop, and the action is focused on this character’s point of view and what happens to her,” Saada told Variety. Meanwhile, Bac Films has recently sold Thomas Cailley’s “Love at First Fight” to Germany’s Tiberius. Nominated for nine Cesar awards, “Love at First Fight” has now been picked up in 37 territories. Shingle has also closed Benelux with September Film on “Virgin Mountain” FILED UNDER: Bac FilmsBerlin Film FestivalTaj Mahal
