variety.com/2015/film/news/berlin-european-streaming-initiative-scope50-launches-at-berlin-film-festival-1201427351/BERLIN — Scope50, an innovative VOD platform for films that have premiered at recent major film festivals but have yet to be picked up for distribution in the Europe Union, is being launched at the Berlin Film Festival. The initiative, which is being led by Poland’s Gutek Film and film industry streaming service Festivalscope, will be presented at the European Commission’s Berlinale conference on Monday (Feb. 9). It was pitched to sales agents and distributors late last year. As well as Gutek, the platform is being backed by distributors in several other EU countries: Aero Films in Czech Republic, Stadtkino in Austria, Soda Pictures in the U.K. and Cinefil Co in Hungary. The project is supported by the EU’s Creative Europe program. The platform allows 50 people in each of these territories to watch 10 recent but unreleased art-house films online, and vote for one of them to be released theatrically across the EU. The second edition of the project will enlarge the voting pool and the number of participating countries. Films entered in the project include Norway’s “Out of Nature,” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, Spain’s “Magical Girl,” which was the major winner in San Sebastian, and France’s “Party Girl,” which won Cannes’ Camera d’Or.
