Boards Antoine Fuqua and IM Global’s ‘Man Who Made It Snow’ The Weinstein Co. has come on board IM Global and Antoine Fuqua’s thriller “The Man Who Made it Snow.” Fuqua will direct with Jake Gyllenhaal, star of Fuqua’s upcoming “Southpaw,” in the lead role. TWC will co-finance and distribute in the U.S. Fuqua Films, IM Global and Gyllenhaal are producing. The picture is the first movie to emerge from Fuqua Films’ overall relationship with IM Global and will start shooting later this year. “Snow” is a biopic of notorious 1980s cocaine smuggler Max Mermelstein, who at the time was the only American admitted to the inner circle of the Colombian cocaine cartel. The screenplay by Brett Tabor and Michael Kingston is based on the now-deceased Mermelstein’s bestselling autobiography of the same title. The deal between TWC and IM Global was negotiated by David Glasser and Michal Steinberg for TWC and by IM Global CEO Stuart Ford and general counsel Deborah Zipser on behalf of IM Global. CAA brokered the deal on behalf of Fuqua Films and IM Global. “This incredible true story has tremendous critical and commercial potential. Our partnership with TWC on this film is even more of an ideal pairing given the relationship between Harvey, Antoine and Jake that’s been fostered on ‘Southpaw,’ ” said Ford in a statement. Boxing drama “Southpaw” is based on the true story of left-handed boxing champion Billy “the Great” Hope, who fights his way to redemption after a devastating tragedy. It will be released by the Weinstein Co. later this year.
