variety.com/2015/film/news/sony-picks-up-cult-indie-director-sono-sions-shinjuku-swan-1201419367/ Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan) will distribute “Shinjuku Swan,” the new feature by cult indie director Sono Sion. Based on a long-running Ken Wakui comic set in Tokyo’s biggest red-light district, the story revolves around an unemployed guy, Tatsuhiko Shiratori, who ends up as a street scout recruiting women for the sex industry. Go Ayano plays Shiratori, while other cast members include Erika Sawajiri as Shiratori’s sex worker pal, Takayuki Yamada as a rival scout and Yusuke Iseya as Shiratori’s scouting senior. Sony will release the picture on 300 or more screens on May 30. That is double the scale of his last movie “Tokyo Tribe,” which had a 150 screen outing last year. The prolific Sono plans to release a total of six films in Japan in 2015. One is the monster movie parody “Love & Peace,” which is set for an early summer bow; another is “Hisohiso Boshi,” a Fukushima-nuclear-disaster-themed film without a firm opening date. Other titles have yet to be announced.
