variety.com/2015/film/news/mission-impossible-5-release-date-shift-tom-cruise-1201415411/Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible 5′ Moved Forward to July 31 Paramount is moving Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible 5″ forward by five months, from Christmas to July 31, 2015. Christopher McQuarrie directs from a script by Drew Pearce and Will Staples. Cruise produces along with J. J. Abrams, and David Ellison of Skydance Productions. The move puts “Mission: Impossible 5” on the same weekend when “Guardians of the Galaxy” opened last year, ending up as the highest-grossing film of the summer. It also puts “Mission” three months ahead of the Nov. 6 launch of “Spectre,” the next James Bond movie. Filming began last August in Vienna. “Mission: Impossible 5″ is the fourth title to land on the July 31 date following the Weinstein Co.’s Jake Gyllenhaal boxing drama “Southpaw,” Warner Bros.’ “Point Break” remake and Focus’ sci-fier “Selfless,” starring Ryan Reynolds. “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol,” directed by Brad Bird, opened in December, 2011, and grossed nearly $700 million worldwide. Paramount is also moving its animated “Monster Trucks” action project back from May 29 into the Christmas slot.

www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tom-cruises-mission-impossible-5-775599Tom Cruise's 'Mission: Impossible 5' Halts Production to Figure Out Ending Paramount has enough confidence in Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 5 that it moved its release date way up from Christmas to July 31. But the production recently shut down for a week or so in London because the film’s ending was deemed unsatisfactory. Director Christopher McQuarrie was given the extra time to work out a new and improved finale with a writer friend whose identity remains a mystery and who will neither be paid nor credited. It's unusual and costly for a big-budget film to halt in the middle of production, especially one with a release date about five months away. While one source claims McQuarrie was "scrambling" to come up with an ending that would work, a Paramount insider puts a more positive spin on the break. "Chris, Tom [Cruise] and a third person wanted to take a minute to get from what they thought was a good place to a more perfect place," says this person, noting that if the studio had been really concerned, it would not have moved up the release date. Paramount suffered through more serious third-act problems with its 2013 zombie apocalypse movie World War Z. That film, starring Brad Pitt and directed by Marc Forster, was shut down and its final third reconceived, with its release date pushed back several times. It ultimately became a hit when it finally reached theaters. One high-level executive jokes that M:I5 is not in any way seriously behind schedule, saying, "Are you kidding? We made World War Z." The last film in the Cruise-fronted series, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, released in Dec. 2011, earned nearly $650 million globally — a franchise best.

deadline.com/2015/03/mission-impossible-rogue-nation-mi5-trailer-teaser-tom-cruise-1201396563/‘M:I 5′ Goes Rogue Nation With Official Name In New Ad Mission: Impossible 5 is now officially Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, per this just-released (and plenty-long) video, an ad featuring stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin, Jeremy Renner and Rebecca Ferguson. The film also features Sean Harris as head of a shadowy (of course) organization called “The Syndicate,” described in the teaser as an “anti-IMF” group plotting…something (of course). The ad shows some eye-popping stunts, including one with Cruise hanging on to the outside of a jetliner on takeoff. It promises a full trailer will arrive Monday, March 23, for the movie, which will debut July 31. Christopher McQuarrie directed the film, and Paramount is handling distribution. Skydance Productions and Bad Robot are producing.

variety.com/2015/film/news/tom-cruise-mission-impossible-rogue-nation-plane-stunt-1201476769/Tom Cruise Was ‘Scared Sh–less’ Over ‘Mission: Impossible’ Plane Stunt Tom Cruise hung off the side of an airplane a death-defying eight times for the most memorable stunt in the upcoming “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” the actor revealed to theater owners Tuesday at CinemaCon. The sequence required the star to an Airbus A400M as it soared 5,000 feet in the air, something that necessitated wearing special contact lenses so he could keep his eyes open despite the wind pressure. “I’ve always wanted to do that,” Cruise quipped, as he presented behind-the-scenes footage of his air flight, adding, ” I want to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.” In past “Mission: Impossible” films that’s resulted in Cruise scaling mountain peaks or hanging along the exterior of the Burj Khalifa. But this may have been his most dangerous mission yet. Cruise admitted that the crew did their best to make certain that there were no birds that could collide with the actor or jet fuel fumes to contend with, but at a certain point…it was up to the fates. “He’s actually out there doing these things,” marveled Rob Moore, vice-chairman of Paramount, the studio behind the hotly anticipated sequel. The ever affable Cruise laughed off the risks, but copped to a few twinges of anxiety. There was one shot of the actor giving the crew a thumbs up sign indicating he was ready for takeoff. “I’m actually scared sh–less,” Cruise said. The behind-the-scenes look at the signature stunt was part of Paramount’s presentation of its upcoming slate of films. The studio also screened two nearly finished scenes from the film, one that showed a shirtless Cruise drugged and hanging from a lead pipe as he’s beaten by a muscled bad guy called the bone doctor. Think the “Marathon Man” interrogation scene with a WWF star filling in for Sir Laurence Olivier. The other scene centered on Cruise and Simon Pegg’s sidekick character Benji engaged in a high speed car chase through the streets of Morocco.
