variety.com/2015/biz/news/sony-to-cut-1500-jobs-in-japan-1201410517/TOKYO — Sony plans to cut 1,500 jobs in various divisions in Japan through early retirement by the end of fiscal 2014, according to Japanese media reports. The company earlier announced plans to make headcount cuts, but now details have been revealed. The process started back in August of last year with cuts to Sony corporate planning and finance sections, but has now been expanded to include Sony corporate HQ staff. The cuts are being made through early retirements, with targets include general staff aged 40 and over and managers aged 45 and above. Applicants will receive severance payments based on their age, length of service and rank, while receiving assistance in finding new employment. By the end of March 2015, Sony plans to have reduced headcounts by a total of 5,000, with 1,500 in Japan and the rest abroad.
