variety.com/2015/digital/news/british-teen-arrested-for-playstation-xbox-attacks-1201407153/LONDON — A British teenager has been arrested on suspicion of an attack on the Sony PlayStation and Xbox systems, as well as “swatting” offenses, according to the BBC. Hacking group Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for the attacks on the Microsoft and Sony platforms on Christmas Day, which made it difficult for users to log on. The attackers flooded servers, causing disruptions to the services. The arrest of the 18-year-old, who was detained in Southport, near Liverpool, follows a joint investigation by the FBI and U.K. cybercrime units. He is accused of unauthorized access to computer material and knowingly providing false information to law enforcement agencies in the U.S. The latter offense refers to “swatting,” in which a hoax Skype call reporting a nonexistent threat is made to the police that leads to the dispatching of a SWAT team.
