variety.com/2015/film/news/patrick-stewart-ian-mckellen-wont-return-for-x-men-apocalypse-1201407953/Patrick Stewart has confirmed that he and fellow first generation mutant Ian McKellen won’t appear in the upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse.” Stewart made the announcement during an interview with Larry King on “Larry King Now,” first reported by Yahoo Movies. “I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters,” Stewart told King (the full episode airs Wednesday at 11 a.m. PT on . “And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.” The last “X-Men” film, “Days of Future Past,” featured both Stewart’s Professor X and McKellen’s Magneto as well as their young counterparts, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, thanks to its time travel plot. The cliffhanger ending of “Days of Future Past” hinted that Professor X will appear in a future installment, so he could possibly make an appearance in Channing Tatum’s “Gambit” and/or Ryan Reynolds’ “Deadpool” spinoffs or a later “X-Men” sequel. “X-Men: Apocalypse,” directed by Bryan Singer, hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
