Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8 Stakes Yorns’ LBI Entertainment To First-Look Deal
LBI Entertainment has signed a first-look deal with Jeff Robinov’s Sony-based Studio 8 as the fledgling company builds up its first slate of projects and cements filmmaker relationships. LBI’s recent films include the hit Fox comedy The Other Woman which starred Cameron Diaz, the Cameron Crowe-directed We Bought A Zoo and Unstoppable, one of the last films by late director Tony Scott.
Former Warner Bros production chief Robinov started Studio 8 with $1 billion in financing, in partnership with the Chinese investment management firm Fosun Group and with Sony Pictures Entertainment, with the plan to generate up to six films annually for the global marketplace. Now it’s time to make the movies. Robinov is known to have as strong filmmaker relationships as anyone out there, because he is a guy with taste and the guts to act on it. He goes back a long way with Rick and Julie Yorn, who recently aligned with Birdman producer John Lesher to produce films with them.
“I’ve worked with Rick for over 20 years and have known Julie and John for almost as long,” Robinov said. “Through their management company and films, you can see Rick and Julie’s incredible taste in talent and material and you can say the same for John through the wonderful directors he has represented and the movies he has produced. We are really excited to start working with LBI and are proud that they are calling Studio 8 home.”
Said Rick and Julie Yorn: “We have cherished our relationship with Jeff throughout his career and are now thrilled we are the first company to sign a first-look deal with his new endeavor. Since he announced his company we felt Studio 8 would be the perfect home to make the kind of films we want to make. His commitment to working with the best filmmakers and on screen talent along with his great taste make him the perfect partner as we grow our company.”
LBI Entertainment was founded by Rick Yorn, Ian Montone and Dave Baram. The high-end management company represents dozens of artists and includes actors, music talent and filmmakers. Its production arm is run by Julie Yorn and is based in the company’s Century City headquarters.
