Rob Friedman, Patrick Wachsberger Re-Up as Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs
Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger have renewed their contracts and will continue as co-chairs of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, the studio said Wednesday.
The pair has helped grow the studio’s film business, shepherding major tween-oriented franchises such as “The Hunger Games” and “Divergent” to the big screen. They will continue to oversee all aspects of Lionsgate’s domestic and international feature film acquisition, production and distribution operations, the studio said.
Friedman and Wachsberger joined Lionsgate in 2012 after the studio acquired Summit Entertainment. At Summit, the duo launched the “Twilight” series and also oversaw such notable films as “The Hurt Locker” and “Red.”
The studio did not say how long the pair’s new contracts would last, but the agreements were described in a release as “long-term.”
In recent years, Lionsgate has expanded the number of films it releases and invested in ventures such as Pantelion Films, which targets Hispanic audiences, and Codeblack Pictures, which is geared towards African-American moviegoers.
“Rob and Patrick’s complementary skills are invaluable in growing our motion picture operations worldwide, and their experience, expertise and relationships will continue to play an integral role in moving our business forward,” Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer and Vice Chairman Michael Burns said in a joint statement. “We’re pleased that they will continue leading our superb motion picture teams in expanding our portfolio of brands and franchises, cultivating exciting new properties and diversifying our feature film business into new areas geared to our next generation consumers.”
In addition to sequels to “The Hunger Games” and “Divergent,” Lionsgate’s upcoming release slate also includes the action adventure “Gods of Egypt,” a new Power Rangers film and “Deepwater Horizon” with Mark Wahlberg.
